Easmanie Michel: Congratulations to NYWIFT Finance and Special Events Associate Easmanie Michel, who is the winner of the Fifteenth Annual American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest! From more than 1600 entries received, judge Francis Ford Coppola and the Zoetrope staff have selected Easmanie’s Caroline’s Wedding as the winning script. We are proud to say “we knew her when!”
The 94%: NYWIFT was proud to partner with USA TODAY on a study of sexual misconduct in the film and television industry. The survey of 843 women in film and television found 94% say they’ve experienced harassment or assault. That’s right, 94%. Thank you to our friends at USA TODAY for providing much-needed statistical data for this ongoing fight for parity, respect and safety in our industry.
Man’s World: Dr. Martha M. Lauzen, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University released her latest study, It’s a Man’s (Celluloid) World, which examines the representation and portrayal of female characters in the 100 top grossing films of 2017. The report found a slight increase in the representation of women of color, but a decrease in inclusion of women overall.
